President Tin Latt's Vision

I would like to extend a warm welcome to the visitors of the web site of the Chindwin College. To usher in the inauguration of Chindwin College, beginning with the School of Engineering, I would like to share with you my thoughts, plans, hopes and expectations for our future.

During the past 10 years, I have been involved in the running of the Soe San Boarding School with a twenty-year successful history. I have seen and influenced to various degrees how it works, moves and evolves. This educational management experience has given me the privilege of a higher stage upon which to think, plan, visualize, dream and execute for Chindwin College. I believe that I have come to understand more deeply what motivates and engages faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends, and how to help move this dynamic and more institutional entity forward.

Globalization is making the interaction between Myanmar and overseas a two-way street. In a more borderless world, the changing job market is dramatically affecting the way companies employ and recruit – from around the world. As aptly described in the flat world of Thomas Friedman, the playing field has been leveled across the globe - these unprecedented changes engender great challenges but also precious opportunities for Myanmars. But, education and training paradigms must shift, for instance, to produce the new global engineer with ambidextrous, analytical and creative skills. The Chindwin College must, therefore, help its students prepare for and to take advantage of the opportunities that will arise, both within and outside Myanmar, regionally and globally.

Chindwin College’s vision is to be a multidisciplinary college excelling in delivering globally recognized higher vocational and pre-university programmes which are internationally certified such as the BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering. BTEC HNDs are administered by Edexcel International (UK), which was formed in 1996 by the merger of BTEC (the Business and Technology Education Council) and the University of London Examinations and Assessment Council. Edexcel is one of the largest qualification awarding bodies in UK, and is approved by the official UK authorities, the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA).

We will strive to provide a unique education (learner-centered, technology-enhanced, enriched with learning for personal effectiveness and global immersion) in Myanmar for our students, and graduate them complete with progression to universities abroad or career placement.

Finally, the school's faculty is its foundation and its essence. Engaging and motivating all its members will be a prerequisite to any of our endeavors. Constantly improving its quality, through the recruitment of and development of outstanding faculty in the key disciplines will be one of our highest priorities.

I am optimistic what the future will bring and look forward to working with each of you in pioneering the Chindwin College and to turn it into a school of opportunity for our graduates to succeed in the global environment.
